ARE YOU A MAMAS BOY?

It's time to ween yourself from the mother teat

et’s begin by defining a mamas boy.  To state it simply, a mama’s boy is a man who’s excessively attached to his mother, often lacking masculine interests.  We could go in to much more detail, for example, about the different psychological variations of mama’s boys.  But for our purposes, this definition says it all.  Also, I’m not a doctor, though I sometimes play one with my wife.  So before you go jumping off a bridge because I called you a mama’s boy and hurt your feelings, go see a shrink.  He’ll give you a hug and make you feel better.

Let’s be clear about a real man’s relationship with his mother.  A man should always love and respect his mother.  After all, she went through incredible pain to bear you, changed your filthy diaper, put up with your incessant whining, and dealt with your crappy attitude all through your teenage years… and that’s just the beginning.  She cooked for you, cleaned for you, took care of you when you were ill, and a ton of other things for which you should be eternally grateful.

A good mother raises her son to be independent and responsible so that he can survive on his own.  She will always love her son and cherish the days when she raised him.  However, she understands that he won’t become a fully mature male until she cuts the umbilical cord.

Unfortunately, we find all too often that either the mother won’t cut the umbilical cord because she wants to hold on to her little boy forever, or we find that the little boy is so attached to his mommy that he holds on to the umbilical cord for life.  And of course we also see the mutually destructive mother-son relationship where the mother and son each want to hold on to each other at all costs, to the detriment of both of them.

If you’ve ever witnessed one of these dysfunctional mother-son relationships then you’re intimately familiar with your gag reflex, because whenever you see one in action you have a visceral vomiting response.  They’re so disgusting, so emotionally corrupt, that you can’t help but feel like you’re witnessing something perverted and sadistic.  These Mama’s boys tend to grow up to be confused in their relationships with women.  This causes all sorts of problems for them and their women.
