ottom line:  It's a decent movie with a few good laughs, but all of the male characters are wimps and losers.  If you're a wimp and a loser, you'll love this movie.  If you're a man, you'll laugh at the wimps and losers.

 

The movie starts off by showing the male lead exposing his dick during a scene where his girlfriend of five years breaks up with him.  Do we really need to see that?  No, we don't.  And they show it to us multiple times.  Why is Hollywood always throwing that homo-erotic crap in our faces?

O.K., if you can get past looking at the guy's member, next you’ll have to deal with the guy crying throughout most of the movie.  He cries so much, and so loud that the front desk of the hotel calls him and asks him to quiet down because he's disturbing other guests.  He cries and cries and cries.  It's funny at first, but then it's just sad.  It's sad because society doesn't think a guy crying like that is very unusual anymore.  It's become very ordinary for a guy to cry in public.  They guy even cries after he has sex with a woman.  In other words, they have him acting like a woman.

 

There's a scene where the main character is asked by some Hawaiian friends to help kill a pig for a luau.  Finally, a chance for the guy to redeem himself and act like a man and put some food on the table.  Nope.  After he kills the pig, he cries like a little girl.

 

We also get treated to guys hugging each other.  Not once or twice, but throughout the movie.  Again – the guys act more like women than men. Additionally, there’s a flashback scene where we get various clips of the main character being the lap dog for his girl friend.  She even buys him a man-purse.  The scene is supposed to show us what a great guy he is because he acts like a total wimp versus the new boyfriend who they make out to be a scumbag because he doesn’t want to wear an ugly shirt the pushy bitch bought for him.

 

Also, if it wasn't bad enough to show the guy’s dick multiple times, watch the guy cry throughout the movie, watch guys hug, and see the guy with a purse, we learn that the main character likes puppets.  The major scene where the guy redeems himself to get the girl, is a scene where the guy plays with puppets.  I shit you not.

 

If you've seen the previews, then you've already seen most of the major laughs.  After seeing the previews multiple times, the scenes just don’t invoke the same laughs.  It's like hearing someone tell you a joke you've already herd.  You might smile or lightly laugh, but the full effect is lost after hearing it a second time – or a third, or fourth time.

 

I was listening to Richard Roeper (wimpy big-city metro-sexual movie critic) say this is the funniest movie he's seen in ten years.  To each his own.  I can't remember very many funny movies over the last ten years, so I won't give him too much grief.  But off the top of my head, Something About Mary was funnier.  More recently, Superbad was probably funnier.  Actually, now that I think about it, Bad Santa was way funnier than this.

 

I didn't laugh much until three quarters through the movie.  There's a dinner scene with two couples.  One partner from each couple, used to date the other, so we get some tension.  One of the guys is a British rock star.  At the dinner, his character finally comes to life and has some genuinely laugh out loud funny lines.  He continues to deliver throughout the rest of the movie.

 

The movie is decent.  You will laugh; especially if you haven't seen the previews.  It's worth a look.  It just rates way low on the Real Man scale. I'll give it three out of five beers.
