MARIAH CAREY IS NO ELVIS

S |
o Mariah Carey just beat the Elvis Presley’s record for the most number 1 singles. Can you give me a freaking break. Certainly no one is suggesting that Mariah Carey is anywhere near the same artist as Elvis or the Beatles? This is a comical comparison.
Granted. She's a great singer and has had many hits. But to even mention her in the same sentence as Elvis is blasphemy. Elvis was a phenomenon. He was bigger than life. He couldn't go out in public without being attacked by women.
I challenge you to name one Mariah Carey number one single. I can’t name any. Could you? One or two? Now name as many Elvis number one singles as you can, or Beatles number one songs. Exactly. I’d be amazed if you could name one Mariah song. But you probably easily remembered Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, Don’t Be Cruel, Suspicious Minds, Burning Love, Blue Suede Shoes, etc. Or for the Beatles - Help, Hard Days’ Night, She Loves You, In My Life, Please Please Me, Ticket To Ride, Can't Buy Me Love, etc.
O.K. If you're a girl 12 to 25, you might be able to name a few Mariah Carey songs. But you could probably still name just as many Elvis songs.

The Beatles and Elvis were from a different era. The population was different, distribution was different, and the record keeping was different. Don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what Mariah said about it recently: "I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed the world," Carey told The Associated Press on Tuesday via phone from London. "That's a completely different era and time”
Props to Mariah for realizing it and stating it. Now if we can get all of the lame music critics and reporters to state it, we'll be on to something.
