Soldier Stands His Ground To Kill Suicide Bomber In Dump Truck
Soldier kills driver of truck, but bomb detonates and takes his life
WASHINGTON - Sergeant Joseph Proctor patrolled some of the most violent areas in Iraq. He was in almost constant danger, and often patrolled with just himself and one other soldier. His post routinely was under attack. One day, terrorists launched a fierce attack designed as a diversion. The enemy’s plan was to divert attention while they launched a suicide attack in a large dump truck designed to destroy the post.
Proctor was in a safe area when the attack occurred.
However, on his own, he ventured out into the line of fire to assist his fellow soldiers in the defense of the post. As he was returning fire in the center of the post, a large dump truck penetrated the gate and moved towards him. He stood his ground and fired over 25 rounds into the cab of the truck. He didn’t flinch. He just stood his ground as the truck came right at him. He killed the driver, but the bomb detonated and killed Proctor.
Proctor’s actions saved the lives of many soldiers and helped repel the assault and retain control over the post. He was later awarded the Silver Star for his bravery.
Real Man Magazine salutes you Sgt. Joseph Proctor. God bless you and your family!
