Odds of Winning the Super bowl
A Look Back
By MICHAEL WOODS
NFL Analyst, Real Man Magazine
LAS VEGAS, Nevada (RM) --
Earlier in 2008, we published the Las Vegas odds makers odds for NFL teams to win the Super bowl. Take a look at the chart below.

One major eye opener stands out. The Atlanta Falcons were 200-1 underdogs to win the Super bowl. Sure, we have a long way to go, but they were dead last and they are on their way to the playoffs.
The next biggest surprise is the Miami Dolphins at 100-1. They too are on their way to the playoffs.
Conversely, the odds makers had nine teams listed as worse than the Detroit Lions. They also had the Cleveland Browns ahead of the Tennessee Titans, who were all the way down in the number 13 spot.
It just goes to show that there are opportunities to perhaps get a nice payoff by taking some long shots prior to the season. Of course, as the season progresses, the odds makers are able to adjust. It's usually foolish to bet against these guys, but prior to the season before they have all of the data they need, you might consider throwing down a few hundred bucks on a few long shots.
The payoff could be huge. For example, if you put down $100 on the Falcons prior to the season, and by some miracle they end up winning the Super bowl, you'd pocket a cool $20,000. Even a more conservative bet like the Titans at 40-1 would pay $4,000 on a $100 bet. Good luck.
