WANTED: GROW A PAIR AND START ACTING LIKE A MAN
A wimp realizes his potential

B |
ottom line: an average movie with a great message. The message: men should man up, put in the work, and become real men. Three out of five beers.
Wanted is about a wimpy young man who is dominated by his girlfriend, best friend, and boss. He has panic attacks and cares about nothing. His best friend is sleeping with his girlfriend and he does nothing about it.
Along comes Angelina Jolie to save him from his miserable life and turn him into a man. She belongs to a fraternity of assassins who wants to recruit the young man in order to help him kill the man who killed his father. Happens everyday, right?
Angelina Jolie looks anorexic and worn out; perhaps her worst appearance in any movie. We are treated to a brief view of her ass – at least her ass still looks presentable.
There’s plenty of silliness and illogic to go around. For example, a focal point of the movie is how these assassins develop the skill to shoot bullets that curve around objects in their path. Also, in one scene Jolie explains the virtues of being an assassin: “take one life, save a thousand”. However, shortly thereafter, Jolie drives her car into a train while after a target. This causes the train to derail and apparently cause the death of most of the passengers on board – so much for take one life to save a thousand. Maybe the mantra should have been “we kill anything and everything in our paths.” Finally, at the end of the movie, our hero is somehow able to mow down dozens of the most notorious, hard to kill bad guys with ease.
It’s also quite predictable. We know the young man is being lied to, and we know who his real father is early on. It’s also cartoonish in many scenes.
However, it has a sense of humor about it. It’s also very stylish in its direction. We get plenty of gun play, explosions, chase scenes, and a little bit of sex. But the biggest reason to see this movie is its overall theme: wimpy men can grow a pair and through hard work, transform themselves into real men. That’s what our magazine is all about.
